Black Arrow is an independent studio and press created by Luca Dipierro, Italian writer, filmmaker and illustrator and Rachel Bradley, American visual artist, designer and photographer.
Black Arrow Studio & Press’ mission is to produce cultural objects-- books, documentary films and audio CD’s-- that push established boundaries and cross artistic and political borders, giving opportunities for expression and collaboration to artists and writers with distinct, original voices from around the world. Everything that we produce is intended to explore new territories, turning expectations upside down.
In contemporary society, we believe that it’s fundamental not to waste paper, time or resources. This is why we choose quality over quantity. For us, every book is like a seed that needs care and attention, planted to give new life to thoughts and visions. Our titles will often be accompanied by CDs and/or DVDs; allowing the written page to expand and echo through other medias.
Black Arrow books are unique objects: conceived, designed, printed, promoted and distributed with passion and extreme attention to detail. In Black Arrow’s vision, author and publisher work side by side, sharing the process of the creation of a book. This is why we started Black Arrow: to bring our experience and viewpoint as artists to the world of publishing.
Black Arrow publishes original fiction and art books. We will also cover other genres including travel writing and cookbooks, revitalized and rediscovered in their revolutionary potential (if you think cooking cannot be revolutionary, read The Manifest of Futurist Cookery by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti). Some of our books will be printed bilingual, pairing English text with that of the original language.
Black Arrow produces films: documentaries and videos about books, writers, musicians, artists and everyday people. For us, cinema is not just entertainment or art, but an exploration of the visible (and invisible) world around us.
